Noida (Uttar Pradesh):
A series of viral videos showing a woman being apprehended and escorted out of a luxury grocery store for alleged shoplifting at the DLF Mall of India in Noida’s Sector 18 has triggered widespread discussion online.
The incident unfolded at the upscale supermarket Le Marché, where store staff and female security personnel intercepted the customer after noticing suspicious activity.
Incident Details & Allegations
- Alleged Theft of Cooking Staples: According to store employees, the woman placed items—specifically jars of ghee and refined cooking oil—into her bag and attempted to walk past checkout counters without clearing the payment.
- Repeat Offence Claim: Staff members recording the confrontation claimed she was a repeat offender, alleging that surveillance camera records tracked her lifting grocery items without billing up to four separate times over the preceding month.
- Viral Confrontation: In the circulating clips, female guards are seen holding the woman's arms as they escort her out of the shopfloor. The woman kept her face obscured with her mobile phone while on a call. A bystander recording the scene was heard remarking on how well-to-do visitors engage in shoplifting everyday groceries worth ₹500 to ₹1,000.
Police Statement & Resolution
- Bill Settled on the Spot: Following the commotion, police officers from the local DLF police post (under Sector 20 police jurisdiction) arrived at the scene.
- Matter Amicably Closed: The woman's companion/family member subsequently paid the outstanding bill for the seized goods.
- No Formal FIR: Since the store management recovered the dues and declined to press formal charges, both sides reached a mutual resolution, and no criminal case was registered.
