Hisar (Haryana):
In an inspiring demonstration of self-discipline and modern self-study methods, 23-year-old Chhavi Sardana from Dogran Mohalla in Hisar has clinched the fifth rank in the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) examination 2025. Without enrolling in any conventional coaching institute, Chhavi scored 385.80 out of 675 marks, becoming the first person in her family to enter government administrative service as a gazetted officer.
Preparation Alongside Law Degree
Having graduated with a BA LLB degree in Patiala, Chhavi initially planned to pursue a legal career before setting her sights firmly on public administration:
- She commenced her civil services preparation concurrently with her undergraduate law coursework.
- Bypassing coaching academies entirely, she instituted a rigorous self-study regimen lasting eight hours daily, typically commencing her preparation between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM.
- To preserve mental focus and adhere to a strict study timetable, she completely disengaged from social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram throughout the process.
Using ChatGPT as an Academic Aid
Explaining her study techniques, Chhavi noted that artificial intelligence served as an effective supplementary resource. She integrated ChatGPT into her daily routine to simplify complex topics, clarify concepts, and gather organized subject information quickly.
She credited her outcome to three core factors: regular study habits, rigorous time management, and single-minded dedication to her goal.
Clearance Across Stages in a 60,000-Candidate Pool
The recruitment process drew approximately 60,000 aspirants during the preliminary round held in April, followed by the mains examination conducted in June. The final interview stage was held at the Haryana Public Service Commission's office in Panchkula from October 3 to October 8, culminating in her top-five statewide finish.
In addition to the HCS, Chhavi has appeared for both the Punjab Civil Services (PCS) examination and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services examination, with results for both tests currently awaited. She stated that while she looks forward to future avenues, her immediate focus will be discharging her responsibilities within the Haryana administrative machinery.
Pride for a Modest Household
Chhavi’s success has brought widespread celebration to her neighbourhood. Her father, Chirag Sardana, operates a modest printing press shop in Hisar, while her mother, Suman Sardana, is a homemaker. Well-wishers, relatives, and local community members have continued visiting their home to congratulate the young achiever on demonstrating that self-directed learning and consistency can triumph over commercial coaching.
