The incident took place at the house of one Syed Imran. Allegations suggest that the couple had prepared to sacrifice the adopted child as part of a treasure-hunting ritual. A pit had been dug in one room of the house, and pooja materials were recovered, raising serious suspicions.

A joint operation was carried out by the District Child Protection Unit, Childline, the Department of Women and Child Development, and Sulibele Police. The family initially objected to handing over the child, claiming, “We are raising the baby ourselves and have no intention of sacrificing it.” However, based on the complaint, the infant was rescued and shifted to a child care home.

Child Development Project Officer Shivamma told the media: “A complaint was received on the child helpline 1098. We conducted the raid based on information that preparations were underway to sacrifice the child for treasure. A pit had been dug in the house, and pooja materials were found.”

The family claims they legally adopted the child, but no documents were produced. The baby will be presented before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), where an inquiry will be held and further action decided. A preliminary report will be prepared and a complaint filed with the police.
