12 Medals for Mangalore University

By the end of the third day of the '85th All India Inter-University Athletics Championship 2025-26' on Wednesday, Mangalore University has secured a total of 12 medals, including four gold, four silver, and four bronze.
Medal Winners:
Gold: 4x400m Mixed Relay, Nirmala (Women's 10,000m), Bhageerathi (Half Marathon), Ujwal Chaudhary (Men's Discus Throw).

Silver: Deekshita Rama Gowda (400m Hurdles), Vibhaskar Kumar (100m Run), Aryan Prajwal Kashyap (400m Hurdles), Prathamesh Amarisla Diora (800m Run).

Bronze: Nagendra Annappa Naik (Discus Throw), Aniket (Shot Put), Chamanjyot Singh (Decathlon), Akash Raj S.M. (400m Run).

Mangalore University Leads the Table at the End of Day 3

Moodbidri: On Wednesday, the third day of the ‘85th All India Inter-University Athletics Championship 2025-26’ held at Swaraj Maidan, Mangalore University displayed dominance in the 4x400m Mixed Relay, the only mixed event of the meet.
In the overall medal tally, Mangalore University has retained the top position with 74 points.
Students under the Alva's Sports Adoption Scheme, representing Mangalore University in this championship organized by Alva's Education Foundation in association with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, won three gold and three bronze medals on Wednesday, bringing their total tally to 12 medals.
Host Alva's College student Bhageerathi brought joy to Mangalore University by winning gold in the Half Marathon held early Wednesday morning.

Bhageerathi Brings Gold

Bhageerathi, who won gold for Mangalore University in the Half Marathon, is a student under the Alva's Sports Adoption Scheme at Alva's (Autonomous) College. Originally from Wan village in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, Bhageerathi represented India at the Al Basra International Half Marathon in Iraq in April 2025. She has participated in marathons not only in Delhi and Mumbai but also abroad. Sunil Sharma, a renowned name in marathons for the last 35 years, is her coach.

Alva's Unique Support

Ujwal Chaudhary, who won gold in Discus Throw, is the son of farmers Rajiv and Babli from Hisar, Haryana. Trained by Arvind, Ujwal aims for the Asian Championship. "Dr. M. Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, gave strength to my dreams and efforts. He identifies and encourages sports talent. The excellent facilities and support at Alva's are the inspiration behind my achievement," Ujwal expressed with gratitude.
Nagendra, who secured third place in the same event, is the son of auto driver Annappa Naik from Bhatkal. A Khelo India gold medalist, his dream is to represent India. "Dr. M. Mohan Alva is the one nurturing my Ekalavya-like efforts," he said gratefully.

Thanks to the Government

Ajay D. from Madras University, Chennai, who won gold in the Men's 400m race, which was the highlight of the day, said, "Because the government identified runners and provided training at the Nehru Stadium in Chennai, I was able to win this title despite being injured. Thanks to my father, coach Premanand, and the government."
Son of car driver Dakshinamurthy, Ajay lost his mother at a young age. He is a student of Loyola College, Chennai.
Priya Thakur, an M.A. Yoga student from Chandigarh University who won gold in the Women's 400m race, smiled and said, "I compete with myself. All my fellow runners are my friends. Improving my time is more important than the gold."
24-year-old Priya from Kangra, Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, is the daughter of farmers Desraj and Mayadevi. She is trained by Anil Kumar. Originally a Kho-Kho player, she entered athletics as a 100m sprinter. "Since the Indian team is shining in the 4x400m internationally, I switched to the 400m race. My dream is the Asian Games and the Olympics," she said.
