Belthangady: Kidnap drama for admission to Mangaluru college – student’s fabricated story exposed in police probe

Belthangady: A college girl’s alleged kidnap drama staged to secure admission to a college in Mangaluru has been exposed during police investigation.

An alleged attempt to kidnap a first-year PU student in Belthangady, Dakshina Kannada district, on Monday had created widespread concern. The girl had claimed that three people came in a car and tried to kidnap her and also stabbed her on the hand with a knife. She had stated that the abductors fled leaving her there after a passerby arrived at the spot.

MLA Harish Poonja had rushed to the hospital to meet the injured student and spoke to her. Apart from Belthangady police, senior police officials from Mangaluru also rushed to the spot. Police had carried out intensive investigations throughout the day.

As the investigation intensified, the girl’s kidnap drama came to light, and she herself admitted that the story was fabricated. She wanted admission to a PU college in Mangaluru, but her family had enrolled her in a college in Belthangady. She planned the drama hoping that her family would then admit her to a Mangaluru college.

For this, she created the kidnap drama on her own. She burnt her books at home, threw her school bag on the way, stopped her scooter and cut her hand with a blade to make it look like an attack. Overall, the student’s act left even the police exhausted.
